occumbotactus

“occumbotactus” was realized for the Facere Collective Hauskonzert 4 on May 3rd, 2019. Two audience members were asked to play a level of the game in between pieces, championing one of the composers in the concert. Therefor the outcome of the audience playing the game decided the program order of the concert…

occumbotactus for one or two game players

Concept and programming by:

Alyssa Aska – www.alyssa-aska.com

Martin Ritter – www.martin-ritter.com

Music based on: omne trinum perfectum by Ludwig Senfl

Controls player one:

A = move left

D = move right

S = reset after death

W/Space = Jump and drop a brick

Controls player two:

Left arrow = move left

Right arrow = move right

Down arrow = reset after death

Up arrow/return = Jump and drop a brick

Gameplay:

Each level consists of four components:

  1. the cantus firmus at the top of the screen
  2. moving platforms which the player can jump on
  3. targets at the bottom where the player must drop bricks
  4. instructions how the dropped bricks should match the bottom melody
    • match pitch and rhythm
    • match rhythm only

The player must examine the cantus firmus (top melody) and “reconstruct” it by dropping the correct bricks at the correct locations to hit the single pitched bricks below, using the correct rule given at the beginning of each level:

Match pitch and rhythm:

Select the correct duration of the platform pitch as well as the pitch to score a point when a matching brick at the bottom of the screen is hit. The pitch of a platform is determined by its position on the staff.

Match rhythm ONLY:

For some levels the platforms move diagonally across the playing field, therefor they do NOT contain pitch information. Match the rhythm only to score, ignoring the location of the platform on the staff.
